The Month of Halloween

Well as we all know yesterday was Halloween. What is funny about being a teacher however is that you do not realize that Halloween is actually a whole month for elementary school children, rather then just one day. So Halloween actually started on October 1st for our class, when we first wrote out the class calender. This entire month our classroom has been decorated with a pumpkin patch, our visitor witch Wendy, and Halloween poems. The discussion amongst groups of kids involved vampires, reptiles, princesses, and most of all, whether or not they were going to be going trick or treating and how much candy they were going to get.
Unfortunately for our school, our principal felt it was inappropriate to dress up for Halloween or allow the children to dress up, so although the day was filled with candy conversation and dress up descriptions, it just felt a little off until after school let out, when all the kids were out walking around in their costumes. Even today, as the holiday is over, the chatter of witches and ghosts, transformers and cowgirls fills the air, leaving each teacher sad the holiday is over but preparing for the next holiday which will surely take up the entire month. As we did the November calender today in class, we saw that Halloween may have been October's holiday, however this month we have thirty turkey and pumpkin pie filled days of Thanksgiving!!!
